Q. I have an old version of DeltaGraph 4.0 (serial number WUEXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX) and have installed the 4.05d and 4.05e patches on top of this version. Since installing the patches, saving files has been a sporadic problem. Sometimes the application will let me save and sometimes it won't. I uninstalled this application to install a newer version of DeltaGraph 4.05 (serial number DGWINxxxxxxxxxxxx), but when I launch the newer version, I'm not prompted for the new serial number, and the old serial number still appears on the banner page. All the pieces of DeltaGraph both on the hard drive and registry were removed. How can this happen?
A. After uninstalling, it is possible for the old serial number to still be encoded in the system. There's a preferences file (DG4.prf) that contains this number, and it does not get uninstalled. There are two solutions you can try: 1. Either delete the DG4.prf and install the new version, or 2. Install the new version into a brand new DeltaGraph folder. Don't use the old folder. By installing the software into the old folder, the preferences file will still identify the old serial number. By installing the new version to a new folder, a new preference file will be created.
