Installing DeltaGraph in Safe Mode
Q. I need to do a clean reinstallation of DeltaGraph 4 or DeltaGraph 5 on a Windows 95, 98, or 2000 machine, while in Safe mode. What are the step-by-step instructions?

A. Below are step by step instructions for completely removing the existing version of DeltaGraph from your machine, booting into Safe mode and installing a clean version of DeltaGraph.

1. Remove DeltaGraph from your machine: Go to Start->Settings->Control Panel, then double-click on Add/Remove Programs to open the dialog box. Scroll down (if necessary) to DeltaGraph for Windows and single-click on it. Click on the Add/Remove button at the lower right hand side of the screen. Respond Yes to Removing Shared files. The files are linked to each other and are part of the DeltaGraph program. When removal is complete, close the window.
2. Copy the DeltaGraph folder from the CD-ROM to your Hard Drive: Go to Start->Programs->Windows Explorer. From the CD-ROM drag the entire SPSS folder and drop it into the Window/temp directory. This will take a few minutes, but when it is complete, close the Windows Explorer.
3. Reboot the computer in Safe mode: Safe mode is a diagnostic mode that starts only the programs and utilities necessary to operating system. These do not include programs that run the background like virus checkers and screen savers. When you restart your computer in normal mode, all programs will be reactivated. To start in Safe mode on Windows95/98, restart your computer (Start->Shut Down->Restart the Computer). When you see "Starting Windows..." hold down the F8 key. From the menu that comes up, select "Safe Mode". On Windows NT, as part of the boot up sequence, you will get a list of options. Select Microsoft Windows NT (VGA Mode). VGA Mode on Windows NT is the analog of SafeMode on Windows 95/98.
4. Installing DeltaGraph: Go to Start->Run and Browse the C drive for the DeltaGraph folder copied earlier. Within that folder, look for Setup.exe and click on it. The complete path should look something like this: E:DeltaGraphsetup.exe. Click on OK. Follow the instructions on the screen.
5. Testing the Installation: When the installation is complete, try launching DeltaGraph in Safe mode. If you are able to launch, try to create a simple graph. If all goes well, shut down DeltaGraph and launch your computer as you normally would. If there is a problem while in Safe mode, please note the procedures you where using when the error occurred, any error or warning messages and contact SPSS Technical Support.
